Personal Reflection

During the OELP, I learnt many things and made a lot of new friends. It also had my prejudice for the Chinese to lessen. At first, I always thought that China sold cheap, imitated stuff. But after going to places like Dongguan Street, I found out that they sold pretty decent items cheaply while others were just plain expensive. Their books there were also rather interesting and they sold many famous, Chinese translated books for cheap prices.

Shopping aside, I noticed that they had rather nice scenery, like at the bund. I further experienced it during the two boat rides, one showing Shanghai during the night, with their buildings lighted up beautifully like the Pearl Orient Tower, and the other in a river where many emperors sailed down in the past. There was also the 二十四桥, where we were given free tome to roam around, which had many rock formations rarely seen in Singapore and the Geyuan Garden, where there were many special features, like the tree that was struck by lightning, the "Tickle" tree, which would sort of tremble when one scratches and lastly, the Bamboo, which we never really see in Singapore and heard that there were many different types of Bamboo. I also learnt many interesting facts, like how they pleased the Emperor in the past. One example is that when the Emperor goes fishing, they would have people in the pond to secretly put fishes on the hook of the Emperor to create the illusion that the Emperor was really "Lucky" and thus keeping him happy. I found this quite weird as I wondered why the Emperors have never caught a person before.

We also visited their local school in YangZhou, where I found out that they were learning stuff more complicated and advanced then ours. I have always thought that Singapore taught the most advanced things. They further shocked me when I realised that they had not really seen an Apple product before. They were however impressive in terms of chess skills, traditional Chinese painting and height. My buddy was easily a head above me. Their lessons were also interesting, namingly their music, art, the 武侠 talk, where we learnt about heroes. We never had this in our school, and the best, their PE, where we were taught Wushu. I found their teacher very engaging and fun. Their respect for their teachers were also astonishing and make our respect to our teacher like a joke. We treat our teachers like our friends but they treat them like GODS. They seldom drink, go to the toilet during classes and were incredibly disciplined. They set a clear line between learning and playing. I think that this is one thing that I perhaps can improve on next time.

I experienced a lot of their history too. Like block printing and going to the old houses where famous people lived in once. I noticed many interesting features like their decorations and how most of them have a hidden meaning inside. I also learnt how block printing came about that it was used to store the earliest records and how troublesome it is as once you miscarve it, you have to start all over again and I wondered why so many people did not rage quit.

 The last thing that I would miss is our fun. Be it at the hotel, where we fooled around, or in the bus. I feel that we really bonded as a class. We usually meet up at nights to play and eat, having a good time together, getting locked out of our rooms and entering creepy hotels. We were always glad to return to the hotel and turn in. We also had fun in the bus as we played something like "Musical Bomb". I would forever remember these good times and I really hope that we can go there again as a class.

OELP Trip Overall Reflection

CID Reflection

This OELP trip was definitely an eye opener for me. To be honest, I have never been to Shanghai or Yangzhou before. It is definitely a once in a lifetime experience in going to China with our classmates. From this trip, I have learnt many different cultures and values that the people in China have, while the people in Singapore do not. I have also observed the behavior of the people in particular places. These have made me wonder why they acted like this. But in a nutshell, the trip was definitely a fantastically superb one, and I had extremely lots of fun with not only my classmates, but with also the tour guide. 

During the trip, our class went to many different places, some of which are tourist attractions, while the others are the ones which provide us with knowledge and a wider range of understanding.  We have also went to a school in China, and interacted with the students there for 2 days. Over there, I have seen many different attitudes from the students and our local ones. I realized that they hardly ever drink water or go to the washroom in between lessons, unlike us, who takes the opportunity to go to the toilet every once in a while. The lessons being carried out are also very formal, and most lessons requires a microphone, so as to allow the students to concentrate on the lesson. Whenever they 起立 and 行礼, the students stand up very quickly, and when they greet the teacher, their body is at a 90 degrees angle. Our local students just take their time to stand up and moreover, they do sloppy greetings. Their actions made me extremely impressed with their school.

On the last day of our trip, we took the bullet train. I realized certain etiquettes the people over there have when they take trains. For example, in the train, the commuters try to keep their volumes down when they speak, so as to not disturb those who were sleeping. Also, in between the intervals of the train stops, the commuters let the other passengers alight first, instead of rushing into the train as fast as they can. These attitudes can hardly be seen in our country, in both MRT's and LRT's. It may be because the people want to grab a seat, however, I feel that such actions are just not necessary. There are certain areas that we definitely must learn from them. 

I have also went to a Urban Planning Exhibition Hall in Shanghai. It had a lot of information, and it serves to remind the people of the past in Shanghai, and to show that Shanghai has went through a lot to be in its current state. Although Singapore have such art zones as well, I feel that the ones we have are a little boring. Perhaps we can add interactive games and colorful structures to attract more people to come. 

In the trip, I went to 2 nice places. Shanghai and Yangzhou. I feel that Shanghai is a very modernized city with high rise skyscrapers and high class buildings. It is not surprising for it to be more prosperous than Yangzhou. On the other hand, I feel that Yangzhou is a very peaceful city, and the people living there have a very carefree life, as they enjoy and relax every single day. Shanghai has a fast paced life, while Yangzhou have a slowly paced life. Also, I realized that the people in Shanghai tend to relax themselves and drink coffee in shops, while the ones in Yangzhou are more active and they participate in different dances.

After this whole trip, and after reaching home, I felt that my home, Singapore, is still a way better place than China. Although it has warm weathers frequently, I feel that Singapore is a safe and prosperous country. Every country and city have their own lifestyles. Singapore's fits me the best, in my opinion. Maybe because I am too used to it! Although I feel that the pace in our lives in Singapore is too fast for me, I still enjoy my life here. I, am proud to be a Singaporean.

OELP reflection

                                   Overall Reflection for the Trip

After this 7 days 6 nights OELP trip, I have indeed learnt a lot in terms of knowledge and also valuable life lessons.

When we were in Shanghai and as compared to when we were in Yangzhou, I could see the stark contrast between the two cities. We took a boat ride at both places and there were a couple of differences I noticed. Firstly, the boat ride at Shanghai’s Huang PuJiang had more vibrant colours in the city and the lights were more coordinated in the sense that one building would light up after another. Secondly, the buildings in Shanghai were a lot taller than those in Yangzhou and according to the tour guide, the buildings in Yangzhou were not allowed to be taller than 9 stories in order to preserve its heritage. Also, while we were on the boat ride in Yangzhou, I noticed the people there were dancing, showing how relaxed and carefree their lifestyle was. This was the exact opposite of the fast paced lifestyle of the people in Shanghai which amazed me.

When we were in Yangzhou, we also visited扬大附中东部分校初中学部，which was one of the top schools in Yangzhou. I used to think that Singapore’s education system was already a very stressful one and that for students my age, we were already facing a lot of stress. However, after the short 2 day immersion with this school, I now think that Singapore’s Education system is nothing like what I thought it was before. Yangzhou’s education system was so much more stressful, due to a couple of reasons.

Firstly, their school hours. They have lessons in the morning from 8 to around 12 after which they will then have their lunch breaks before they continue with lessons from 2 to 6. Secondly, because some of them stay far from school, they stay in the school hostel and they only get to meet their family once a week, which I personally admire them a lot for as I am the kind that is very attached to my family. My buddy, who stays in the hostel, shared with me how much she misses her family but she has no choice but to study hard due to the large competition they have in China. She only hopes that she does well in her studies so she can get a good job in the future and repay her parents. After hearing this, I felt really touched as Singaporeans are always complaining about how they do not have this and that whereas the students in China were so mature and already thinking ahead for their future. She also added on saying that due to the late school hours, she sometimes only get 5 hours of sleep and if there was a lot of homework on that day, maybe just 3 hours of sleep! Lastly, in lessons,I noticed that the students all maintain a good sitting posture with their back straight and hands on the table. They do not fidget about and pay close attention to whatever the teacher says. Whenever the teacher asks a question, the students would shout out the answers with confidence whereas in my school, or, at least my class, we stay silent for most part of the class.

Another thing I noticed were the facilities they had in their classrooms. They were using chalk boards and touch screen projectors which I could see aided in their learning a lot. I also noticed their toilets. Their toilets were very different compared to those in our school. After this trip, I have definitely also learnt to appreciate the clean toilets we have in Singapore and of course not forgetting our school toilet cleaners!

In a nutshell, I have learnt many priceless lessons and gained many experiences that are hard to come by in life and I am very appreciative towards the teachers who made this possible as well as my supportive parents. I have also learnt how lucky I am to be a Singaporean student as I would definitely not be able to handle that kind of stress the students in China face and am also proud to be a Singaporean as we have made an effort in trying to preserve our heritage which is important as Historic buildings are physical links to our past.

My OELP trip

Throughout this 7 day OELP trip, I was able to experience and embrace China's culture. After this trip, my knowledge of China has increased greatly and I am also more aware of the impact China has on Singapore. We visited Shanghai, after which we went to Yangzhou. We visited one of the industrial sites in China, Shanghai Volkswagen, and we were awed by the size and success of China's market and realized how mediocre Singapore's market was compared to China. Besides that, when we went for the exchange programme I realized how hardworking the students were in China as the competition in China is big and the students have to study a lot. This trip made realize the role that I have to play in the future and that if I don't work hard and Singapore does to continue to improve, Singapore's economic rate and status would fall immensely and we might be swallowed up by other countries.

When we were in Yangzhou, we went to RV's sister school 扬大附中东部分校初中学部 for a cultural exchange with the students there. My buddy was called 毛梦君, he taught a lot about Yangzhou's culture and how the schools in Yangzhou were operated. We sat in class with the students there and learnt together with them. The students were very obedient unlike Singapore students. I later found out that it is important for students to respect their teachers in China. We were lucky to be able to learn about Yangzhou's culture during 端午节. I learnt that in Yangzhou, it was a tradition to hang eggs around their neck (佩带香囊) and I learnt how to hang the egg over my neck. I found it interesting as normally in Singapore, we only eat dumplings and row dragon boats whereas in Yangzhou it is tradition to 佩带香囊, 插艾草 and 吃十二红. I think that this trip has made me more aware of the beliefs and values of people from China.

While in Shanghai, we visited the Bund, French Concession, Huang Pu Jiang and I saw that the buildings in Shanghai were heavily influenced by the westerners. This buildings were well preserved however on the inside, there were shops that are very modernized like Starbucks and some other cafés. This not only allows China's heritage to be well preserved but also allows China to make more business by setting up shops in popular tourists attractions. Whereas  in Yangzhou, we visited many traditional places like the 瘦西湖, 个园, 雕版印刷博物馆, etc. Almost every building and shop in Yangzhou had a traditional high roof with carvings on it. Yangzhou is also very popular for its beautiful scenery, as a result many tourists are attracted and this promotes Yangzhou's culture. In Singapore, I  think that the government should put more effort into preserving a Singapore's heritage site and maybe Singaporeans can learn from China to built shops that uses Singapore's culture or our Chinese culture as it's theme to promote our culture.

Despite Singapore's and China's difference in market and heritage, I am proud to be a Singaporean. One of the reasons is that living in Singapore is less stressful as living in China. This because in Singapore we have a smaller population and we do not have to compete as hard as the students in China. Besides that, I am also happy to be a Singaporean as we have better school facilities than in China and the standard of living compared to that of China is way better in Singapore.

The OELP trip has been a fruitful learning journey for me as I was able to experience China's culture and understand the people of China better. Through this trip i was able to change my impressions of them that they were rude and liars that made fake products. While I know that some of the people are like that, but after the trip I realized that many of them were kind, welcoming and friendly people. Through this trip I was also able to spend more time with my teachers and friends and I was able to understand them better, be it their flaws or their strengths. If I were able to go on another overseas trip with my classmates, I would gladly go for it again.

OELP reflection

Daily reflections ~~

Day 1— On day 1, upon arrival at the Shanghai Pudong airport, we claimed our luggages and wrote a letter to ourselves in the booklet that was given to us. After that, we took a bus to the Shanghai Bund, our first destination. 

After alighting the bus, we gathered in front of the 3 pillars that symbolised the 3 wars that China fought. The tour guide then told us about the history of the place, where there was once when the local Chinese, together with dogs were banned from the Bund, which then caused the Chinese people to be unhappy and protested for they were being treated as if dogs even in their own country.

Then, we went for our dinner and went to ride on a boat ride in the Huang Pu river. The night scenery was really beautiful and unforgettable. With all the flickering synchronised LED lights and lasers from the tall skyscrapers brightening up the whole river. Iconic buildings like the Pearl Tower and the building that flashed lights that says "I love Shanghai" were some of the buildings that left great impression as almost the whole outer walls of the buildings were displaying light shows. There are also a lot of iconic buildings visible from the Huangpu river. One of it is the building with a rectangular hole at the top of it. It was built by the Japanese people and they initially wanted to put the Japanese flag there. But people later protested. For the building is in China and not Japan.

After the Huang Pu river boat ride, we went to the hotel to check-in and prepare for the good night sleep. We did not have any debrief on that day for it was already very late when we reached the hotel.

Day 2— On day 2, we stopped by Tian Zi Fang and the ShangHai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall on our way to YangZhou. The Tian Zi Fang was where the foreign(French) people lived at. It still preserves the old style of how the streets were like in the past. I think that this little place of Shanghai was very worth visiting as people could walk through the streets, as if living in the past before Shanghai was this urbanised. In the little area, it seemed really relaxing, a contrast from the busy city outside of it. 

For lunch, we went to the Hai Di Lao Hot Pot, where I was warmly welcomed by the waiters and waitresses there. The waiters even lined up and ushered us to inside the restaurant, as if we were VIPs. Even in the toilets, there were waitresses waiting to serve you, helping you turn on the tap and handing you the paper towels for your wet hands. Even the people serving the food would not hesitate to explain to you about the dishes, and even apologize for not filling up empty cups immediately. The people working there were super friendly and they had made my lunch time more enjoyable. However, the toilets in the restaurant were easily clogged, making many of the toilets out of order. It can be improved if they renovate and change the toilets to a better one.

Day 3— On day 3, we had breakfast at the Zhi Chun Cha She just opposite our hotel. The breakfast served was a heavy one. For the people in YangZhou had a rather relaxed lifestyle, and they eat 2 meals per day, where the breakfast is a very heavy one which they usually eat at around 10am, and then slowly eat for about 2 hours.

From the experiences to the lifestyle of YangZhou people, I've learnt that different places have different standards. Although the food may be nice, the other facilities were not as good, which implies that nothing is perfect. From the visit to the ShouXiHu, I've learnt that even trees have feelings too. For example, the "ticklish" tree which moves its branches when it is being "tickled".

Day 4— On day 4, we went to the Yang Da Fu Zhong Dong Bu Fen Xiao Cu Zhong Xue (an affilated school) for an immersion programme. From the experience that day,  I have observed the good attitudes of the students there during lessons. They do not fidget around and listens attentively during lessons. There was no whispering and extra noises at all, except for the teacher's voice. It was a big difference from how we usually behave in class as we were not always paying attention to the teacher. The students there showed an attitude that they really wanted to learn from their teacher, therefore respecting their teachers and take down notes dilligently. I feel that they were really great role models and we should learn from them. 

For dinner, we went to the Lushi Old Mansion. It was a themed restaurant. It was well designed. Especially the wall with a lot of lanterns with all the different ways of writing the word "卢". 

Day 5— On day 5, it was our second and last day of our immersion with the affilated school. It was the day to perform a dance for them as a class. Our class was especially excited about this part of the whole OELP trip for we practised for quite some time. But unfortunately, we did not have enough practise and the group performances were not very good, especially my group's for we were all unsynchronised. I was a little disappointed. But the class dance was really good. The whole class danced together for the Yang Zhou students. The students there also put up an amazing performance for us, which made me somehow feel a little inferior as the students there did a great job in organising the performances and performing them. 

Day 6— We visited the Volkswagen factory. They had good teamwork and is very organised. The company not only produces excellent products, but also outstanding workers who are not only good at serving people, but also very knowledgeable. Even if they were to not work in the factory any more, they could still find a job easily with the training they had received from the company and mottos. 

Day 7— It was sadly the last day of the OELP trip. We took the bullet train to ShangHai Pudong airport. The train ride was very pleasant. The train was totally quiet and peaceful compared to the MRT train in Singapore. The train moves very smoothly without making much noises. Furthermore, food and drinks were allowed on the train. 

But what touched me the most was that the bus driver that drove us around for almost the whole trip actually helped us drive our luggages to the airport so that we could enjoy our train ride. It was a 4-hours drive from YangZhou to Shanghai and the driver was so nice to help us deliver our luggages to the airport. 

Oelp reflection

From this OELP trip to Yangzhou, I've learnt a lot of new things. The trip has increased my knowledge of China and how it has an impact on Singapore. On the bus on our way to the next destinations, the guide will always take the chance to tell us more about China. From this, I've learnt a lot of new things such as the history of the education in China. For example, there was a period of time where all the students rebelled against teachers and that people who got zero out of one hundred  were considered the "best" and that the students bully the teachers and the better the teacher is at teaching, the more ill-treated the teacher would be. I was kind of shocked that this actually happened. 

I am also more aware of the values and beliefs of people from China. In China, people work hard to feed their family and the competition in China is also very intense. The students have to study very hard so as to not let their parents down. From the visit to the school in Yangzhou, I found out from one of the students there that students were not allowed to have ear holes as it is considered "not pure".

I am proud to be a Singaporean. Because in Singapore, we have a nice and conducive environment for kids to grow up and our air quality is good too. And although the competition in Singapore is very high, in my opinion, as compared to China, Singapore's education system is not as stressful as that of China's education system. As there is way much more people living in China than that of Singapore, its  no doubt that there will be a lot more competition in China than Singapore. Another reason that I am proud to be a Singaporean is that Singapore is a very safe country.

In this trip,  I've visited two cities with a long and rich culture. For example, the Chinese mixed the past and present of the buildings together to preserve and promote their culture. They preserved the outer looks of the old buildings and did modern business in the buildings to attract tourist. Singapore can learn from China to fit in the modern style into the older buildings, for example making an old shophouse into a tourist attraction.

In conclusion, I've learnt a lot of new stuff from this OELP trip, and have matured a lot more and also have changes in my mindset of China.

DAY 1

Bund 外滩

This was our first destination upon arriving Shanghai. The scenery at the Bund was very beautiful and we learnt a lot about the history of various buildings that can be seen from there, as well as the history of the place. From what I remember, the tour guide told us that the local Chinese people were banned from entering this park, along with dogs about a century ago if I'm not wrong and there was a protest as there was a sign that says the locals and dogs were prohibited in this place that seemed as an insult to the Chinese and in the end, the sign was taken down and the Chinese people were allowed to enter the Bund. The park is very suitable for people to relax and have a walk or exercise along with the beautiful scenery, and is also a nice place to be at.

Huang Pu Jiang 黄浦江 (Boat ride)

At night, we went for a boat ride on the Huang Pu Jiang. Almost all the buildings that can be seen from the boat had led lights on them, making it a beautiful scenery.

DAY 2

Shanghai Rayfront Xuhui Hotel 上海徐汇瑞峰酒店

This was the hotel we spent our first night in. In my opinion, it was very clean especially the toilets. On that night, a few of the girls went into the lift after checking in not knowing that we needed to scan the card in order to arrive at the levels of hotel rooms and ended up scaring ourselves thinking there were other "people" there.

Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall 上海城市规划馆

In the Shanghai Exhibition Hall, we saw many the figurines of the entire Shanghai and we watched a clip on a full wide screen which was filled with information about Shanghai in the past as compared to now, how it grew economically into such a great city we see today. There were a total of 5 or 6 level where we were given time to browse around.

French Concession 法租界

This place is a place of conservation of cultural heritage but with a mix of the modern world, with shops like Häagen-Dazs and Starbucks. Because of this, people were debating about how stores like Starbucks should not be present at such a place. It also gave off a vintage feel with the buildings and was beautifully decorated with flowers.

This place is like a street of stalls selling items ranging from keychains to wallets to even yoghurt!

Hai Di Lao Hot Pot 海底捞

Honestly this is probably the place i had my best meal at. They were very kind towards us and respected us even though we were of younger age than them. When we entered, they all greeted us with a smile on their faces and were extremely towards us. This is something that is hard to find in restaurants in Singapore. Next, when we were brought to our tables, i was shocked when they started handing out spectacle cloths to people who wore spectacles and even offered aprons to those who were wearing white clotes. Their service towards their customers is simply splendid! In there while enjoying our meals, we all felt like kings and queens. When the served dishes, they would also voluntarily introduce us to the dishes and answer to our questions patiently. They also responded to our needs quickly.

Another awesome service they had free of charge was manicure!

In addition, they also had a playroom where parents could leave their children there while they have their meals. Also, at the place they have their meals. there is a television which shows what is happening in the room which gives the parents more security knowing that their children is safe.

DAY 3

瘦西湖 & 船游24挢（机动船）

The 瘦西湖 is a popular tourist attraction. It was build in the past to please the Chinese Emperor when he came to visit Yangzhou and it is the second largest lake in China. There are many houses and pavilions, bridges around 瘦西湖 that are being well preserved, and each of this places are of great historical value and also have an interesting story behind each of them. Tourists would be able to know more about Yangzhou's history after visiting the 瘦西湖. The view of 瘦西湖 is also very scenic and the place caters boat tides for tourists to tour 瘦西湖 via the lake itself. With this boats, tourists would be able to have a closer view of the bridges and pavilions. Tourists would also be able to travel from one part to another of 瘦西湖, instead of having to cover the entire of 瘦西湖 by foot.

东圈门历史街 

东圈街 is a very traditional place and it is one of the more preserved streets in Yangzhou. There are many traditional shops that sell things from traditional Chinese handicraft to Yangzhou's speciality, 扬州三把刀. The place is very unhygienic as there is a lot of pee and sewer water around, making it reek of disgusting  smells. However so, 东圈街 is the perfect place for tourists to experience how the people in Yangzhou lived in the past, their estates and more. The authorities should also take more care of the streets, perhaps if cleaned, more people might want to go there. That area is also in risk of getting diseases easily and thus should be cleaned often.

中国雕版印刷博物馆

We went to the block printing museum, where we saw the history of block printing and even saw people carving the blocks and printing it live. It was an educational experience for most of us as we have not seen this kind of things in Singapore before. We also saw a china vase that they say, was a treasure of China due to its historical value.

东关街 is a popular tourist attraction in Yangzhou. The things sold in 东关街 are cheap and the shop owners are open to haggling (base on our experience, the prices are already cheap so it would be difficult to haggle, we suggest that if you want to bring down the price, buy more of the same thing). There are a variety of shops in 东关街 that vary from shops that sell tea to shops that sell toys. The exterior of these shops look very olden and traditional, however there are many modern shops in 东关街 such as cafés. At 东关街，we are still able to see occupations that are rare to see in China and have already disappeared in Singapore long ago, such as traditional candy making and traditional puppet making. So make sure to check out these amazing traditional art in action, before these occupations disappear for good.

谢馥村 (Performance)

谢馥村 was a factory of 谢馥春 in the past, now while still preserving 谢馥村, it is transformed into a tourist attraction for tourists to visit and watch a performance by Yangzhou's beauties. This performance is mainly performed by women and it showcases the beauty of Yangzhou women. The performance also shows Yangzhou's traditions and cultures by singing songs using their dialect and playing their chinese traditional instruments such as 古筝 and 二胡. It is very interesting as there are also some games during the preparation. When we went to watch the performance, the hostess asked some of us to volunteer and try to talk in Yangzhou's dialect. We recommend tourists to visit this place for a deeper understanding and experience of Yangzhou's unique culture and traditions.

Day 4

Lushi Old Mansion 晚清盐商豪宅卢氏老宅享用晚餐

       ^Yangzhou's speciality, Yangzhou Fried Rice

             ^This dish is made with vegetables that can only be found in Japan at a certain period of time

The Lushi Old Mansion belonged to some merchants who lived there in the past. Now the Lushi Old Mansion is opened for people to experience how the Chinese dined in the past. It has a unique theme to it and it shows us how houses where rich people lived in the past looked like. There are many gardens,that have a rich history behind them, for the diners to visit. Delicious Yangzhou food, including expensive dishes that can only be found in certain places are served here.

Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal 北京杭州大运河 (Boat Ride)

The Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal is a colourful and lively area. The canal, bridges and boats were decorated with colourful lights. Whereas, at the sides of the Grand Canal there are excerise areas and pavilions for people to gather. During our trip, we noticed that some people were exercising together and others were playing music and dancing. There were people taking a stroll too. It was very rowdy and lively. There is a boat ride available to bring tourists from one end of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal to another and there is a tour guide who explains the buildings and bridges that the boat crosses.

Geyuan Garden (个园)

This garden is rich in its natural beauty and special landscapes. The peaceful waters and the greenery provides us with serenity and is an ideal place for one to relax. It has a calm scenery, along with the clean fresh air and its nature. There are staircases made out of jagged and uneven rocks, giving a sense of uniqueness since we seldom see nature being made used of as stairs. The Ge Garden is also Full of bamboo plants as the owner of the garden loved bamboos.

剪纸博物馆

The 剪纸博物馆 is a traditional place and there are many displays of Chinese paper cutting done by professioners. The cuttings are extremely complicated and has many detailed parts in them. There is a workshop for paper cutting and we were able to a hands on experience. We were given several 宣纸, some pictures of animals for us to cut from and special Chinese paper cutting scissors that we could bring home after the workshop. Whenever we faced difficulty, the trainers there would voluntarily step ahead and help us in any way that we need. On the lower floor, there was a souvenir shop selling many different works, like different designed hand held fans and bookmarks made up of the Chinese paper cutting. It was no doubt an enjoyable and meaningful experience.

Former residence of Zhu Ziqing (朱自清故居)

The Former residence of Zhu Ziqing (朱自清故居) is located in a small alley and it was where Zhu Ziqing (朱自清),a renowned poet and essayist lived. Zhu Ziqing migrated to Yangzhou at a young age, away from his family, and he was well known for his love for Yangzhou. The Zhu Ziqing's Former residence is preserved and turned into a tourist attraction to remember his contribution to Yangzhou. At Zhu Ziqing's former residence, his books and his handwritten work are also displayed there.

Daming Temple (大明寺)

The Daming Temple is a popular tourist attraction. At the Daming Temple, there is an extremely big entrance with small stores selling praying items. There is also a very big hall of different Buddhas, including the Guanyin Buddha. The Daming Temple is an ideal place to make a prayer for blessings and well being. There are rooms that display pictures, statues, etc. to commemorate some renowned poets and the person who played a big part in spreading Taoism to Japan.

Shanghai Volkswagen Company (上海大众(仪征)工厂)

The Shanghai Volkswagen Company is extremely big and there are many Volkswagen cars at the side of the exhibition, and all of them were new and cool. There is also a brief 3D map of the whole of this Volkswagen company on display. We were brought into a meeting room to watch a short clip of the success of Volkswagen and how it progressed to be this successful throughout the years. After the video, we were split up into 4 different groups to board onto 4 different electric cars to bring us for a tour around the whole of its factory. While we were on the trip in exploring how they manufacture their cars, the driver would explain to us what was going on using a wireless MP3 that was given to each of us. We were also provided safety goggles, that we had to put on in case any bits of metal or sparks fell on our face. Inside the factory, there were many many machines used to help out in their work. These machines were extremely efficient and useful and they do things well in the shortest amount of time possible. The different processes of making a Volkswagen car was extremely complicated as the car had to be extremely safe and secure. Many checks on the cars were being held out and they use fake people to test it out. In the factory, there were many banners found in every part of it

Each banner wrote something motivational, to motivate their workers to strive for the best and work as hard as they could to satisfy every customer they have. I feel that they were extremely hardworking and disciplined in doing this job. The trip through the enormous factory gave me a deep impression of this place, and it gives me a deeper understanding on how cars are made and manufactured. It is not easy to make a car, however, I really enjoyed this experience and will never forget it in my entire life

DAY 7

Holiday Inn Express Yangzhou City Center 扬州文昌阁智选假日酒店

Here are some photos of the hotel. All 3 pictures credit to Google as I did not take picture of the hotel.

^ There are sofas and little chairs for us to sit while waiting for instructions.

^ The hotel room was very comfortable and the beds were soft and nice. There are also a lot of channels on the television :) There is also a safe in the cupboard for you to store your things when you're not in the room.

RATE: ✮✮✮✮.5 (there is wifi in the room and lots of channels on the Tv and comfy beds and a safe box. But there wasn't much to do in the hotel room besides sleeping and bathing after a whole day of exploring. ) 

Bullet Train 高铁

On the last day, we took the Bullet train to Shanghai Pudong Airport. 

^ There is a convenience store for people to buy snacks and stuff

^ And a souvenir shop for souvenirs

^ And also a bubble tea shop for bubble tea lovers! They also have some bubble tea named after One Piece characters (which is my favourite anime ^.^) which seemed really attractive to me :} ^_^

^ Yeah, and this is the bullet train platform! 

^ Shortly after we went in the station platform, the bullet train arrived.

^ Comfy seats! But, the coolest of all, the seats can actually be turned such that we can face each other during the train ride like this!! It was awesome!! XD
